You may be familiar with the SAP Hybris Labs teams in Munich and Walldorf, but what you might not know is that there’s a small team located on another side of the world which is also working on SAP Hybris innovations. So, nice to meet you! We are the SAP Hybris Digital Innovation Space…… in…… China!

Innovation Space is an open-door office located in the middle Tianfu Software Park, usually referred to as China’s Silicon Valley, where more than 60K engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs are working day and night, dreaming to change the world. They are initiating new ideas, making great applications for various industries, and they follow all kinds of hot topics: blockchain, AI, AR/VR, O2O, you name it.

Our Innovation Space engages startups across various industries focusing on cutting-edge technologies, aiming to build joint showcases combining SAP Hybris products and local innovations.
This opens new opportunities for SAP and these startups. On one hand, as most of SAP Hybris products are or will be on SAP Cloud Platform, we need an innovation ecosystem that can integrate various vertical industry solutions with SAP Hybris products. These joint showcases may not be a productized solution, but they create reference, experiments and potential product features for our customers and partners. On the other hand, the startups are connecting to SAP solutions on SCP, giving them opportunities to connect to our customers and partners, and promote their brands.

In addition to joint showcases, Innovation Space, working together with SAP Labs Chengdu, initiated several China market relevant showcases. China is a big market, China is changing fast. We observe these changes, determine their relevance for the SAP Hybris portfolio, and design showcases on that basis.

Startups are our main audience, but universities are also on our radar. In 2017, we held a ‘Innovation Contest’ with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China – a very famous university in China – which involved 180+ participants, with 40+ ideas submitted, and 1 patent application filed.
Students from Universities and their coaches, most of them are SAP senior engineers, POs, Arches.
Innovation Space is like a bridge here in Chengdu, connecting China’s local innovations with SAP products, customers, partners, and internal teams. Meanwhile, we are also working close with SAP Hybris Labs on lighthouse showcase development. We are excited that we can contribute from China’s perspective on innovation, lower the threshold of SAP Hybris products for the China market, and align smoothly with innovation strategy. It feels great that we are part of something bigger!
