Guardian is a combined health/safety monitoring and checklist system for field service workers performing tasks in high-risk environments. A smart watch is used to monitor and transmit the worker’s basic vital signs, and also shows the specific order in which certain tasks must be completed. Real-time knowledge and verification of the worker’s current status allows businesses to implement a dynamic insurance pricing model.
Additionally, safety precautions are enforced by only granting access to certain areas once the appropriate measures (e.g. protective clothing) have been taken and confirmed by the worker and then validated by visual object detection. The constant monitoring of the worker’s vital signs replaces the need to actively report that no accident has occurred (passive dead man’s handle).
Companies that put their workers in high-risk environments must ensure safety procedures are followed correctly. They also need to insure their workers accordingly. Applying dynamic insurance pricing, fitted to a certain task a worker is performing, means the company no longer needs to pay the highest insurance premium throughout the entire period of the job, but only for the time the worker is in a high-risk situation.
The combination of status confirmation through a smart watch and visual object detection (e.g. through a smart phone, fixed cameras, drones) running on SAP Leonardo, increases overall workplace safety and give companies the required information to apply dynamic insurance pricing.
