Omni-channel commerce at its best, demonstrating how the online and the offline world can be connected. A gesture based product navigator that is installed behind a shopping window, in this case Kinect, enables a customer to browse through a store’s inventory even when the store is closed. Any product that attracts the customer’s interest can be added to a wish list via an NFC tag, and shared on Facebook. The customer receives a geo-fenced alert the next time he gets close to the store, notifying him that the desired product is now available.
We realised that customer engagement is much higher when the technology disappears. It is important to reduce the distraction to a minimum. When a customer interacts with a website, they have to constantly break off their communication to type or move a mouse pointer.
To extend this concept and our NFC-based prototypes, we added a gesture based product navigator, using the Microsoft Kinect platform. We also added geo-fenced alerts to provide highly contextual, post-discovery, content.
